The Community Arts Theater Society (C.A.T.S.) was established in 1994 as a non-profit theatrical organization designed for community participation in bringing high quality theater, as never before seen by a volunteer organization, to the Big Bear Valley.
Those familiar with producing musicals and plays for the stage are astounded that C.A.T.S. is able to produce such high quality productions and for the most part, this is due to the true "Community Spirit" that the Community Arts Theater Society embraces.
Community support comes from ticket sales and Angel donations.   The souvenir programs for each event is self-supporting through participation by local businesses.

We are proud to announce that our productions are funded, in part, by a grant from The California Arts Council. All donations to C.A.T.S. are tax deductible and will be used for expenses related to major productions and workshops.

To further enhance your theater experience, several local merchants have offered special package deals which may include the following: Discounts on lodging, show tickets, dinner and after show deserts.

We encourage you to visit the merchant of your choice to see further details on their offerings. We also put together a listing of links to local restaraunts, hotels and B & B locations.

CONCLUDED:
The Wizard of Oz

CATS, The Community Arts Theater Society of Big Bear Valley, just concluded their summer musical 'The Wizard of OZ', with music and script based on the classic movie. The show featured all of the familiar characters in the movie, and was a "roaring" success!

The timeless enchantment of the L. Frank Baum story and the enduring classic movie version came to life on the Big Bear stage in CATS' version of 'The Wizard Of Oz'.  The Oscar winning musical score featured such wonderful songs as 'Over The Rainbow', 'If I Only Had a Brain/ A Heart/ The Nerve', 'Follow The Yellow Brick Road', 'Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead', and 'The Merry Old Land of Oz' with the added production number, cut from the movie, 'The Jitterbug'.

The CATS musical production featured two talented CATS veterans who are double cast as Dorothy, Amber Carpenter and Tori Waner, both having grown up on the CATS stage.

Other favorite performers included Ty  Warren as the Lion, Steve Combs as The Tin Man, Joe Sellarole as The Scarecrow, Elena Peavy as The Wicked Witch, Amanda Fisch as Glinda The Good Witch,  Jim Weyant as The Wizard, Paul Mitton as The Guard and Mojo Willis as Toto.

Karen Sargent Rachels directed and choreographed, with Cathy Winch doing special choreography for 'The Jitterbug'.  Joanne McMaster was the Sets & Lighting Designer and Priscilla Anderson was the Costume Designer. The incredible CATS Set Construction and Scenic Paint Crews, once again, brought Broadway quality to the Big Bear stage.
The production will also benefitted the completion of the building of the CATS Warehouse Theater in Big Bear City with $1.00 of each ticket going to the Building Fund.

Announcing Our
2009 Season
The Community Arts Theater Society (CATS) is pleased to announce its 15th consecutive season of quality theater in the Big Bear Lake valley.

2008 proved to be a very successful season, and the Community Arts Theater Societies 2009 Season promises to be even better as we move forward with the construction and completion of our very own Warehouse Theater.

As C.A.T.S. productions enjoy increasing popularity, advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended. Several shows last year were Sold Out, disappointing many who waited until the last minute to purchase tickets.
