The Community Arts Theater Society (C.A.T.S.) was established in 1994 as a non-profit theatrical organization designed for community participation in bringing high quality theater, as never before seen by a volunteer organization, to the Big Bear Valley.
Those familiar with producing musicals and plays for the stage are astounded that C.A.T.S. is able to produce such high quality productions and for the most part, this is due to the true "Community Spirit" that the Community Arts Theater Society embraces.
Community support comes from ticket sales and Angel donations.   The souvenir programs for each event is self-supporting through participation by local businesses.

We are proud to announce that our productions are funded, in part, by a grant from The California Arts Council. All donations to C.A.T.S. are tax deductible and will be used for expenses related to major productions and workshops.

To further enhance your theater experience, several local merchants have offered special package deals which may include the following: Discounts on lodging, show tickets, dinner and after show deserts.

We encourage you to visit the merchant of your choice to see further details on their offerings. We also put together a listing of links to local restaraunts, hotels and B & B locations.

Announcing Our
2012 Season
The Community Arts Theater Society (CATS) is pleased to announce its 18th consecutive season of quality theater in the Big Bear Lake valley.

Last year proved to be a very successful season, and the Community Arts Theater Society's 2012 Season promises to be even better as we move forward with the construction and completion of our very own Warehouse Theater.

As C.A.T.S. productions enjoy increasing popularity, advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended. Several shows last year were Sold Out, disappointing many who waited until the last minute to purchase tickets.

Performances in The John Spivey Theater
CATS, The Community Arts Theater Society of Big Bear Valley, announces that their summer musical will be Lerner & Loewe’s classic musical, “MY FAIR LADY”. As is CATS policy, only major principal parts have to audition, and several of these auditions were held last February. Robin Field plays Henry Higgins with Jennifer Gail as Eliza and Joe Perlow as Col Pickering. However, no auditions are necessary to join the adult, teens and children’s choruses, and small parts will be cast from those choruses. All those wishing to join the show are asked to come to the first rehearsal and orientation on Saturday, May 14 at 1:00 at the new CATS Warehouse Theater in Big Bear City. There is additional parking on Aeroplane and side streets. Be prepared to stay for rehearsal until 5:30. There will also be a rehearsal on Sunday, May 15 from 1:00-5:00. Those not able to come are asked to e-mail Donna Fisch at alpendove2@charter.net.

As is CATS policy, there are no fees to participate in CATS shows. However, you must commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule. There are many opportunities to perform in “MY FAIR LADY” for members of these choruses, and all ages are welcome. Director, Karen Sargent Rachels says: “ If you want to get involved in a wonderful CATS show, this is your chance! The rehearsal schedule is extensive, but only spans 6 weeks prior to opening night, and is rather brief for such a major show. Therefore, commitment to the team is very important. Rehearsals begin May 14 , th and the 12 performance run begins on June 24 through July 10.”

CATS is not a child-sitting service, so parents of children must be actively involved. Parents may co-operate with other involved parents for the safety and monitoring of their children. Detailed schedules and information will be passed out at the May 14th rehearsal. Those wishing to get involved with sets, lighting, audio and backstage are also asked to come to the May 14th meeting at 1:00. There will be a brief Annual meeting of the Board of Directors and CATS volunteers at 1:00 as a part of the orientation
.
